Tabby May Singer
Hello you lovely visitor, it’s been a while since I’ve posted something on my website. On the crafting creativity level there’s not much going on in my life at the moment. But musically things are suddenly back on track.
As you may or may not know, I’m not just a visual artist addicted to coloring, crafting, painting and what have you, but I’m also a singer and guitarist. I’ve been singing and performing for people from the time that I was eleven years old.
From 1999 I started singing in bars, pubs, on festivals, birthday parties etc. and got paid to entertain people for a couple of hours.
Since I’ve moved to Spain, I did try to start a musical career here at the Costa del Sol, but unfortunately the way things go here, is just not my cup of tea.
So in the Summer of 2015 I quit, and didn’t even play a lot on my guitar anymore after that.
It didn’t give me the joy it used to, and I just let it rest. I’ve had more such periods in my life, where I just wasn’t ‘feeling it’, so eventually I figured it would return.
And that was what happened. The Corona virus pandemic came along and changed the world. Suddenly millions of people worldwide are stuck in their houses, biding their time, waiting for this crisis to be over.
And so I asked myself ‘what can I do to help other people?’. Well, these days I’m bombarded with crafting videos, demos, how-tos and I didn’t feel like adding my crafting ‘thingies’ to it. So what else could I do?
Then I saw Garth Brooks, Chris Martin (Coldplay) and many other artists playing little gigs from their homes, to entertain people. Now THAT appealed to me! I can sing and play!
For heaven’s sake, grab that guitar off the wall and play, girl!! That’s what my mind was yelling at me. And so I did.
Three weeks ago, March 22nd, I decided to give it a go and just see what would happen. The plan was a one time only gig, and I played for 1,5 hour.
And the enthusiasm of my small audience was encouraging enough to promise them another one a week later. Which I did. And the week after that again!
The third one was now two days ago, last Sunday. And I’ve promised to continue to do this as long as the quarantine lasts, and who knows, maybe even after that. I don’t know, time will tell.
Maybe you’d like to know which songs I’ve sang, so here’s the list of songs, in alphabetical order. Songs that were requests are marked with a *
