Big Girls
For months now I regularly see drawings of the ‘Fat Ladies’ by Julia Woning on my screen in several Facebook groups. (Note: I’ve consistently translated ‘Dikke Dames’ to ‘Fat Ladies’ and it wasn’t until today that I’ve seen the English part of Julia’s website, where I discovered that she calls them ‘Big Girls’… oops… sorry Julia 😀 ). At first I felt like those were not my cup of tea. I’d rather colored mandalas and paisleys. But when the Christmas cards were published and I received a set of those to review, I started looking at them from a different angle. (Click here to see that review).
And to be quite honest, I really like them now 🙂 . The Fat Ladies drawings are straightforward, often very funny, and you can silence your mind by just bringing them to life with your coloring materials.
In the meantime I’ve seen a lot more of the work Julia has done and she is a very talented and gifted visual artist. Beside the Fat Ladies she can draw and paint beautiful lifelike portraits. Actually she’s so versatile in her skills, that I think there’s not much that she couldn’t do. Why not check out her website and surf around to see the many examples of her work that she shows there!
New coloring techniques book
Just recently a new book by Julia Woning has been published: Coloring Techniques Workshop (as far as I’m aware only available in Dutch) in which she gives all kinds of tips and tricks on how to improve your coloring skills and raise your work to a higher level. You’ve probably already guessed what will end up on my bookshelf pretty soon… because I just NEED to have this book!
I’ve also received the latest coloring book by Julia Woning already, to review. It’s called Tropical Coral Reef. So pretty soon you’ll be seeing more of that book as well.
